Eric Riddle - 50 Years of League Cricket

Eric Riddle - 50 Years of League Cricket

Will Ray22 Jan 2024 - 18:00

Foreword by Lawrie Wright...

"Longevity in a cricket club usually involves taking on positions of responsibility besides just playing. Over 50 years and 1000 games of League cricket, Ericʼs contributions have been many and varied. One may think that Captaining the 1st XI League side to the number one position is top of the pile but in many ways running the 4th XI League and then the 5th XI League games involves much more work. Just getting 11 players together is only part of the job.

Teaching the young boys in the team to score and umpire when needed, driving them to away games, making sure the whole team takes turns to carry chairs and a scoreboard to the ground are just some of the tasks involved. Eric has Captained far more of these games. They are the lifeblood of a club and by encouraging the youngsters in both League and non League (Sunday) games, Eric has made an immense contribution to our Club over 50 years of League cricket."

Following Eric's remarkable achievement, we are pleased to attach a document - written by Eric - reflecting on the previous 50 years of Herts League Cricket, including details about his early playing days, memorable moments and favourite team-mates.

From everyone at HCC, congratulations Eric.
